How To Read The Akashic Records (For Yourself)

Learning how to read the Akashic Records for yourself is one of the most empowering practices you can embrace on your spiritual journey. For years, I’ve worked with the Records, both for myself and with clients, and I can tell you that accessing this infinite field of wisdom doesn’t require any special gift or years of training. It simply requires your willingness to show up, trust what comes through, and create a gentle container for the experience.

If you’ve been curious about the Akashic Records but didn’t know where to start, this guide is for you. I’ll walk you through everything you need to know to begin reading the Records, including the exact prayer I use, how to prepare yourself, and what to expect when you’re in the Records.

What Does It Mean To Read The Akashic Records?

Before we dive into how to read the Akashic Records, let’s clarify what this actually means. The Akashic Records are often described as an energetic library or database that holds the story of your Soul — past, present, and future. Think of them as a field of infinite wisdom and unconditional love.

When you read the Akashic Records, you’re opening a direct line of communication with this field. You’re essentially asking questions and receiving guidance, insight, and clarity from a place that knows your Soul’s journey intimately.

Reading the Records isn’t about fortune-telling or getting definitive answers about what you should do. It’s about receiving support, understanding patterns, and connecting with the deeper wisdom that already lives within you.

Can Anyone Learn How To Read The Akashic Records?

Yes. Absolutely. This is one of the most important things I want you to know.

You don’t need to be psychic, clairvoyant, or have any special abilities. You don’t need to be initiated by a teacher or complete years of training. The Akashic Records are available to everyone because they belong to everyone. They’re part of the collective consciousness, and your Soul has as much right to access them as anyone else’s.

What you do need is:

  • A willingness to trust what comes through

  • Permission to receive guidance in your own way

  • Patience with yourself as you learn

  • An open heart and curious mind

The Records meet you exactly where you are. Some people receive information through words or knowing. Others see images or feel sensations. There’s no right or wrong way to experience the Records, only your way.

How To Read The Akashic Records: Step-By-Step

Now let’s get into the practical steps. This is the exact process I use every time I access the Records, whether for myself or for a client.

Step 1: Create Sacred Space

Before you begin, take a moment to create an environment that feels supportive. This doesn’t need to be elaborate, it’s simply about signaling to yourself that you’re stepping into something intentional.

You might:

  • Light a candle

  • Play gentle music or sit in silence

  • Clear the energy with sage, palo santo, or simply opening a window

  • Sit in a comfortable position where you will not be interrupted

  • Place a hand on your heart to ground into your body

The ritual itself matters less than the intention behind it. You’re creating a container that says: I’m ready. I’m here. I’m open.

Step 2: Set Your Intention

Before opening the Records, pause and set an intention for your session. This could be as simple as: “I’m here to receive guidance that’s for my highest good” or “I want to understand why I keep experiencing this pattern in my life.”

Setting an intention helps you stay anchored during the experience, especially when you’re first learning to read the Akashic Records.

Step 3: Prepare Your Questions (Optional)

While you don’t need to have questions prepared, it can be helpful, especially when you’re new to this practice. Having 2-3 questions written down gives you something to anchor to once the Records are open.

The best questions are open-ended and invite deeper exploration:

  • “What do I need to know about this situation?”

  • “What is this pattern here to teach me?”

  • “How can I best support myself right now?”

  • “What is my Soul inviting me to explore?”

Avoid yes/no questions or questions that ask the Records to make decisions for you. The Records are here to support your agency and wisdom, not replace it.

Step 4: Use A Prayer To Open The Records

This is the most important step in learning how to read the Akashic Records. You need a way to open the Records — a prayer, invocation, or statement that signals your intention to access this field.

There are many different prayers you can use. The one I rely on is called The Universal Akashic Prayer, which was gifted to me by my guides in 2021. It’s soft, grounding, and deeply supportive, and it’s become the prayer I use in every reading.

The Universal Akashic Prayer (Opening)

As above.
So below.

We give thanks to our Guides for lighting this path.

As we honor this Source of infinite love, support, knowledge, and healing.

We ask for the courage to bring our full presence of heart, mind, body, and soul into the Akashic Realm.

As we hold with the highest respect this Source of all that was, is, and will be.

Lords of the Akashic Records, Masters, Teachers, Loved Ones, and Guides, I lovingly ask to know [myself / first name] in the Light of the Akashic Records. To see [myself / first name] in the Light of the Akashic Records. To experience [myself / first name] in the Light of the Akashic Records.

The Records of [your full legal name] are now open. (say silently 3x)

(Announce the opening of the Records by saying the following aloud).

May the path be illuminated.

The Records are now open.

When you say this prayer, speak it slowly and with presence. You don’t need to rush. Let each line land. Notice how your body feels as you move through it.

After you’ve said “The Records are now open,” take a moment to simply breathe and notice what you feel. Some people describe a subtle shift in energy. Others feel warmth, a sense of expansion, or a quiet settling. Trust whatever you experience.

Step 5: Ask Your Questions And Listen

Once the Records are open, you can begin asking your questions, either out loud or silently in your mind.

Here’s what’s most important to understand: the Records speak in whispers, not shouts. The guidance often comes through as gentle nudges, quiet knowing, subtle images, or deep feelings.

You might receive information as:

  • Words or phrases that drop into your awareness
  • A sense of knowing without knowing how you know
  • Images, colors, or symbols
  • Physical sensations in your body
  • Emotions that arise unexpectedly
  • Memories that surface

Don’t try to force anything or second-guess what comes through. The first thing that arrives is usually the most accurate. Your mind might want to analyze or dismiss what you’re receiving, that’s normal. Just notice it and gently return to the question.

Keep a journal nearby and write down what comes through, even if it doesn’t make sense in the moment. Sometimes the meaning reveals itself later.

Step 6: Close The Records

When you feel complete, whether that’s after 5 minutes or 30 minutes, it’s important to intentionally close the Records.

Here’s the closing prayer I use:

The Universal Akashic Prayer (CLOSING)

Lords of the Akashic Records, Masters, Teachers, Loved Ones, and Guides we thank you for your unconditional love, support, knowledge, and healing.

The Records are now closed, Amen. The Records are now closed, Amen. The Records are now closed, Amen.

Closing the Records is an act of gratitude and completion. It signals to yourself and the field that this session is complete.

Step 7: Integrate What You Received

After you close the Records, don’t immediately jump back into your day. Give yourself a few moments to land.

You might:

  • Journal about what came through

  • Take a few grounding breaths

  • Drink water or have a light snack

  • Go for a gentle walk

The integration often happens in the hours and days after a session. Pay attention to what shows up — synchronicities, insights, shifts in perspective. The Records work with you over time, not just in the moment.

What To Expect When You Read The Akashic Records

If you’re new to reading the Akashic Records, you might be wondering: How will I know if I’m actually accessing them? What if nothing happens? What if I’m just making it up?

These are all completely normal questions, and I want to address them directly.

It Might Feel Subtle (And That Is Okay)

The Records don’t usually communicate through dramatic visions or booming voices. For most people, the experience is gentle and quiet.

You might doubt what you’re receiving. You might wonder if you’re imagining it. That’s your analytical mind doing its job, and it’s actually a good sign that you’re in a receptive state.

Trust what comes through, even if it feels simple or obvious. The Records often share things you already know on some level but haven’t given yourself permission to acknowledge.

Some Days Will Feel Clearer Than Others

Your connection to the Records will vary depending on your state of mind, your energy, and what’s happening in your life.

Some sessions will feel expansive and alive. Others might feel quieter or more still. Both are valuable. Sometimes the stillness itself is the message.

You Cannot Do It Wrong

This is the most important thing I can tell you: you cannot access the Records incorrectly. The Records meet you with unconditional love and support, exactly as you are.

If you show up with an open heart and a willingness to receive, you’re doing it right. The rest is simply practice and trust.

Tips For Reading The Akashic Records As A Beginner

As you begin your practice of reading the Akashic Records, here are a few things that have helped me and my students:

Start Small

You don’t need to spend an hour in the Records. Even 5-10 minutes is enough, especially when you’re starting out. Shorter, more frequent sessions often feel more sustainable than long, intense ones.

Trust The First Thing That Comes

Your mind will want to edit, analyze, and second-guess. The first impression, before your mind has a chance to interfere, is usually the most accurate.

Write Everything Down

Even if what comes through doesn’t make sense in the moment, write it down. You’ll be amazed how often the meaning becomes clear later.

Be Patient With Yourself

Learning how to read the Akashic Records is like learning any new skill. It takes time, practice, and patience. Some people feel an immediate connection. For others, it unfolds more gradually. Both paths are valid.

Return To The Practice Regularly

Consistency matters more than intensity. Even if you can only access the Records once a week, that regular rhythm will deepen your connection over time.

Common Questions About Reading The Akashic Records

Do I need to be in a certain state of mind?

No. You don’t need to be in a deep meditative state or perfectly calm. The Records are accessible to you in any state. That said, if you’re extremely activated or distracted, it might be harder to hear the guidance clearly. A few deep breaths before you begin can help you settle.

What if I do not receive anything?

Sometimes “nothing” is actually something. The quiet itself might be the answer, an invitation to rest, to stop seeking, to simply be. Trust that the Records are always communicating with you, even in the silence.

Can I read the Records for other people?

Yes, absolutely. Once you're comfortable reading your own Records, you can begin reading for others. The process is the same, you simply say their name in the opening prayer instead of your own.

Building a strong foundation with your own Records first is important. When you're anchored in your own relationship with the Records, you can hold space for others with more clarity and confidence.

How often should I access the Records?

There’s no rule. Some people access the Records daily. Others go weeks or months between sessions. Listen to your own rhythm and trust what feels right for you.

You Already Have Everything You Need

Learning how to read the Akashic Records for yourself is one of the most empowering gifts you can give yourself. It reminds you that you have access to infinite wisdom, support, and guidance — not outside of you, but through you.

The Records are always available. They’re patient. They’re loving. And they’re waiting for you to ask.

All you need to do is show up, open the door, and listen.
